Save the Date – Peopleplace 40th Anniversary Party & Fundraiser 🎉

From the Director...

Peopleplace is one-of-a-kind. Four decades of children, families, teachers, volunteers, and supporters have created a special community that makes a difference during and after a child’s time on campus.

We wouldn’t be here without YOU!

I hope you mark your calendar and join us for our BIG 40th Anniversary Party and Fundraiser as we work to celebrate four decades of impact and pave the way for our future.

We’ll be in touch soon with a formal invitation, but in the meantime, I invite you to visit our Brick Fundraiser webpage – a special campaign to support scholarships at our school. With the goal of raising $40,000 in honor of our 40th Anniversary by June 1, we hope you will reserve your place on the front steps of Peopleplace to honor your connection to the school for years to come.

Thank you and I look forward to celebrating with you on June 1!
Cheers,
Sessa

P.S. For you alumni, I have a special request! If you have a testimonial you would like to share about your experience or a memory as a parent, student, teacher, board member, etc, I'd love to hear it. Send me a quick email at office@peopleplacecoop.org.

P.P.S.  And if you know of anyone who would like to receive these newsletters, I am collecting email addresses. We have current families who attended Peopleplace as young children who are now enrolling the next generation. I am missing contact information for alumni from that era and would love to connect with those who are interested. You can send any contacts to me at office@peopleplacecoop.org.
We are in the middle of enrollment season. If you know of any 3 and 4 year olds from anywhere in the Midcoast area looking for an exceptional preschool experience, please send them our way! You can find out more about our enrollment process and find registration forms on our website...www.peopleplacecoop.org

With the high cost of preschool, we are committed to bolster our endowment, grant-write, and fundraise, in order to offset the cost to families.

We also have contracts with CDS (Child Development Services) and the Office of Child and Family Services for families who are eligible for the Child Care Affordability Program. The State of Maine just passed legislation to increase the amount a family can earn in order to qualify for this underused funding.

Peopleplace is committed to making our programs accessible to all - despite economic hardship.
From Cricket Fuller (Board President)...

We are so proud that our director, Sessa, was recently nominated as one of “20 Outstanding Early Childhood Leaders” by MaineAEYC, the state chapter of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Sessa has been on the frontlines of advocating for children, families, and teachers at the local and state level to improve access to high-quality affordable childcare and paid family leave. Her leadership embodies the very heart of Peopleplace – our commitment to community and inclusion – and has positioned us to be part of efforts and conversations aimed at addressing the acute needs so many families in our area are facing. The Board congratulates Sessa on this well-deserved honor and is grateful for her service to Peopleplace – our children, educators, and families – and our larger community.

From the classroom…

Young children need community to thrive. Peopleplace is, and has always been, a community of learners. When adults learn alongside children and model for them how to approach something new with curiosity, wonder, and joy, children respond in kind. Inquiry-based learning is an approach we embrace in the Peopleplace classroom. Inquiry-based learning is a student-centered teaching method that encourages students to ask questions and investigate real-world problems. In this type of learning environment, students are actively engaged in the learning process and are given the opportunity to explore their natural curiosities.

This type of learning is often hands-on and allows students to connect what they learn in the classroom and the real world. Inquiry-based learning has been shown to improve critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and creativity.

In a Reggio-Inspired classroom, the parent is the child’s first teacher, the child is the protagonist, and the teacher is the researcher. In this model, learning happens collectively and collaboratively. As you can see in this documentation, ice became a jumping off point for exploration which led to the development of deeper, more complex learning. Through asking questions, cause and effect, experimentation, and inquiry, the seemingly simple topic of ice became a foray into several domains of learning from social-emotional growth, to science, and the creative arts!

Reserve your place on the walkway to Peopleplace’s front steps.

Buy a brick to honor your child, an alumnus, or a teacher. Get whimsical and record your favorite quote or Peopleplace memory, or simply write a name to recognize your family, remember a loved one or demonstrate your business’s support of Peopleplace.
Your generous purchase will make certain that Peopleplace’s high-quality education remains accessible to Midcoast families and continues to meet a critical need in our community. Your brick purchase supports our scholarship fund and helps ensure we can continue to strengthen diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in our school community.
Phase one of the brick campaign will close in Summer 2024. Make sure to purchase your brick before we assemble the walkway in August. Your brick will bring us one step closer to reaching our overall goal of $40,000 for 40 years as a cooperative and will become a permanent part of Peopleplace’s illustrious history. Thank you!
