From the start Peopleplace has been a leader in the field of early childhood education in Maine. For forty years the school has provided a safe and caring learning environment, adopted progressive pedagogy, and empowered both children and families as they transition to the next step in their educational journey. The founding principles have endured and are more relevant than ever. As a Reggio Emilia inspired play-based program and a cooperative where parents, teachers, and children work and learn together, the result is a culture that cultivates wonder, joy, connection, and community.

In the face of ever-changing and challenging circumstances, Peopleplace has continued its steadfast commitment to protecting the rights of children to be just that - children. With all of the pressures that families face today, from working demanding jobs, to the pressures of being kindergarten ready in an high achievement culture, to the high cost of child care, to balancing work/life/children, they need all the support they can get. Peopleplace reminds parents that it is okay to take time to pause and enjoy this special and fleeting time in their children’s lives - and that they are not alone.

As the childcare and PreK landscape continues to challenge parents, grandparents, teachers, lawmakers, tax payers, etc., there is one common theme all stakeholders cannot disagree on - that children are our future. The next generation(s) will take our place as the parents, grandparents, teachers, lawmakers, tax payers, etc. Investing in high-quality care and education for our youngest citizens not only gives everyone a strong foundation, it is our collective responsibility, and we should all care because it impacts (or will impact) all of us.
