Meet the Teachers and Staff of Peopleplace
IN THE OFFICE
Sessa started at Peopleplace as a parent. She served 5 years on the Board of Directors – 2 as President. This is what led her to the position of Director. Sessa has lived in Camden with her husband and two children for 10 years. Before that she lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and San Francisco, but with local roots, returned to the area. She has worked in education, social work and owned her own business. Thrilled to be part of the Peopleplace community, she hopes to help perpetuate it’s mission and philosophy.
Linda joined Peopleplace nearly 30 years ago, when her son was 18 months old. She started doing the books for Peopleplace around 1990. Her husband Cary grew up in Camden. They met in Pennsylvania, working for a farm machinery company, got married and moved to Maine where they raise blueberries. Linda loves to hike, snowshoe, downhill ski, camp and garden. When asked about her favorite Peopleplace moments, she said she loves watching her granddaughter play on the playground (and wishes she lived closer so she could be a Peopleplace kid). Linda has a Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Michigan State University.
Heather received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from The College of William and Mary in Virginia in 1991 and then taught first and second grade in Virginia for eight years. She completed her Master’s Degree in Teaching from George Mason University in Virginia on the day her first daughter was born in 1999, and, in the Spring of 2009, finished a Graduate Certificate program in Early Language and Literacy from the University of Southern Maine.
Heather lives in Rockport with her husband, two daughters, and two big dogs. This is Heather’s 12th year teaching preschool at Peopleplace. Before that, she was an enthusiastic parent helper and served on the Board of Directors. She loves that every day at Peopleplace is filled with laughter and the joy of learning.
Jane has been at Peopleplace on and off for 15 years, as an afternoon teacher, parent, board member and currently as the lead teacher in the downstairs classroom. She completed her CDA (Child Development Associate Credential) in 2012. Jane grew up in the Midcoast and is now raising her son, Adam ( age 14) here. Jane and Adam love the winter season most of all, but enjoy everything Maine has to offer year round.
Sharon has been working with children since she was a child herself. This is Sharon’s 7th year teaching preschool and she is delighted to have joined the Peopleplace Community. Sharon has also worked as an Educational Consultant and prior to her children being born, was a first and second grade teacher. Sharon received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Wake Forest University and her Master’s Degree in Educational Processes from Maryville University in St. Louis.
Sharon loves coming to Peopleplace because she gets to learn and laugh and be with great people. While not at work, Sharon likes sewing, music, dancing, and just about anything involving the water. Her favorite way to spend her time is with her husband and two daughters.
Jen Feldman has a Master’s in Education from Lesley University. She started her teaching career in middle schools in North Carolina and Maine and spent several years as a social worker for children in Knox County before finding Peopleplace. Jen has been a part of the Peopleplace family since 2006, first as a parent, then as a summer camp teacher in the downstairs classroom, and finally as a classroom teacher upstairs. The school, its community and philosophy are very important to her and she is thrilled to remain a part of it all.
Brandi Maxwell-Blood (Preschool Program Teacher)
Brandi received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1999. After graduating she followed her husband to Maine. In 2005 she left her position as the Business License Administrator and Assistant City Clerk for the City of Portland to start a family in Midcoast Maine and was a stay at home mom for several years. Recently, Brandi has been working towards her elementary school (K-8) teacher certification through the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She has worked as a substitute teacher and educational technician in grades K-3 and joined Peopleplace 2 years ago as an Afternoon Program Preschool teacher.
When not at Peopleplace, Brandi enjoys going for walks with her dog, spending time with her husband and two daughters and exploring new places. Brandi loves being a part of the Peopleplace Community. She believes everyday is a chance to learn something new and is continuously inspired by the people she knows and meets, those young and old and in between.
Ashley Goff (Preschool Program Afternoon Teacher)
Ashley happily joined Peopleplace 2 years ago as an Afternoon Program Preschool teacher. She is currently working on her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Early Elementary Education (K-3 Certificate) through the University of Maine at Augusta. Ashley instantly fell in love with Peopleplace’s incredible sense of joy and community. She believes that the most rewarding experience has been to laugh, learn, and grow right along side of these amazing children. Outside of Peopleplace, Ashley loves spending time with her family and friends. She also tries to spend her time outdoors as much as possible, whether in the garden or hiking the mountains of the midcoast.
Bio to come.
